Horizons unlimited – the travellers handbook

Horizons Unlimited is the on line bible for anyone planning to travel the world by motorcycle (or a tin top if that’s your preference).  Or for those who like to experience other peoples adventures vicariously, this is a great site to see what intrepid travellers of the world are up to. San Pedro de Atacama – Chile

February 4 to February 7, 2012 The journey to get to San Pedro de Atacama was one of the most amazing and difficult rides we’ve had on this trip.     We left  Salta early and headed towards the border with Chile. The road takes us into the Andes and we begin to climb and climb and climb. Salta – Argentina

February 2 to February 4, 2012     Our final day in Argentina is spent exploring the Quebrada de Cafayate, the basin between two sections of the Andes. Erosion over the centuries has created some of the most amazing landscapes. The minerals in the soil, the movement under the earth, the water and the wind have littered this area with landforms that people come from miles to see. What possesses two seemingly normal middle class professionals to turn their backs on the safety of their home and travel across the world on a motorcycle? That is a difficult question to answer – even for us. Brian is a career policeman with more than 27 years in the job. He has risen to the rank of Inspector. Shirley is a journalist/author. She has established a good business as a freelance writer and publicist. Together we have planned and prepared our way clear to spend 12 months on the road – two up on a motorcycle – Aussies Overland!
